Who we are

England’s Centre Lodge was established in 1895 and has met continuously since then – the only break was due to Covid. Our meetings are held at Freemasons’ Hall, Northampton on the third Thursday of the month from October to April.

We are one of 90+ lodges in the area – defined as a Masonic Province – which is itself one of 48 governed by the United Grand Lodge of England. Different Lodges meet on different nights (some during the day) and details of the other Lodges in the area can be found on the Provincial website.

About Freemasonry

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest social and charitable organisations, with its origins rooted in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles.

The history of Freemasonry traces back to the early 17th century, with the formation of the Grand Lodge of England in 1717 being a significant turning point.

Today our governing body is known as the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). The website of UGLE has a very good section with background information and suggested reading for anyone interested in Freemasonry.

Are you interested in joining?

Freemasonry is a wonderful fraternity with a history going back at least several hundred years. The Craft, as it is also known, is founded on the principles of Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service.

The idea that you have to wait to be asked is a myth but there are some basic requirements: you must have a belief in a Supreme Being, be ‘a mature man of 18 years and over’ and be of good character.

If you think Freemasonry might be something for you please get in touch.
